[p3]-Hydroponic Update September

It’s time for a [p3]-Hydroponic Update. As you know, we have a hydroponic container here in Freiburg in front of our office. We like to share our experience, learnings and vegetable growth with you. In this video (it’s in German) we give you an update what happened from August – September.

Summer is over and the sun doesn’t shine so bright anymore. We had a great harvest during summer time, but now we feel and see a decline in our harvest, especially in our cucumbers and tomatoes. This season we had some difficulties with the tomatoes. We still need to figure out and analyse the reasons for this but systemic issues in the beginning and a too hesitant pinching out the shoots might have influenced the slow growth of the tomatoes. We also harvested a huge amount of lettuce – maybe some of you have tried it. But now we also recognize that the weather does not suit the type of lettuce in our hydroponic system anymore.

In our DWC (Deep Water Culture) System, a system where the roots of the plants are submerged in the water at all times we grow peppers, chard, chili, kohlrabi and basil that fills our hydroponic container with its nice and tasty smell.

Summer goes and autumn comes and with it pumpkins and courgettes. We are very happy and proud of our first pumpkin that has a weight of 5 kg - so excited to taste the first bites. Any great recipes for a nutmeg pumpkin?
